Cat Heat Cycle Calculator & Tracker
Track estrus cycles and predict next heat
Understanding Cat Heat Cycles
Female cats (queens) are seasonally polyestrous, meaning they cycle into heat multiple times during breeding season (spring/summer). Heat cycles last 5-7 days and repeat every 2-3 weeks unless the cat mates or is spayed. Our calculator helps track these cycles and predict when your cat will next go into heat.
Heat Cycle Basics
- First heat: 5-9 months of age (can be as early as 4 months)
- Cycle length: Every 14-21 days during breeding season
- Heat duration: 5-7 days (can extend to 10 days if not mated)
- Breeding season: Spring/summer (Feb-Sep in Northern Hemisphere)
- Indoor cats: Can cycle year-round due to artificial lighting
Signs Your Cat is in Heat
- Excessive, loud vocalization (yowling, crying)
- Rolling on floor, rubbing against furniture
- Raised hindquarters with tail to side ("lordosis")
- Increased affection or uncharacteristic aggression
- Trying to escape outdoors
- Spraying/marking territory with urine
- Decreased appetite
Why Spaying is Recommended
Spaying before the first heat provides maximum health benefits: 90% reduction in mammary cancer, zero risk of uterine infections (pyometra), and no heat cycles. Best done at 4-6 months of age.
