Cat Food Transition Timeline Calculator
Gradual food switching schedule to prevent digestive upset
Cat Food Transition Guide
Sudden food changes cause vomiting, diarrhea, and refusal to eat. Gradual transition over 7-14 days allows digestive system to adapt. Our calculator provides day-by-day mixing ratios to ensure smooth, safe food changes.
Standard Transition Schedule
- Days 1-3: 75% old food + 25% new food
- Days 4-6: 50% old food + 50% new food
- Days 7-9: 25% old food + 75% new food
- Day 10+: 100% new food
When to Slow Down
Warning signs: Severe diarrhea (watery, bloody), vomiting 2+ times, refusal to eat 24+ hours, lethargy. If these occur, revert to 100% old food and consult vet.
Special Transitions
Dry to wet: Expect softer stools (normal - more moisture). To raw: Never mix raw with kibble (different digestion speeds). Feed raw meals 4+ hours apart from kibble during transition.
